Letter to Customers

March 23, 2020

Dear Dayton Freight Customers,

Dayton Freight is open and operating! Different states have issued business closures that are classified as non-essential or non-life sustaining. Dayton Freight is an essential, life-sustaining business and will continue to operate as normal. The states currently effected in our core 14 state area include Illinois, Ohio, Pennsylvania and parts of Missouri.

Outside our core area we are working with our trusted Strategic Partners who are also open and operating. We will continue to assist you with any freight moving to or from the states and provinces they serve. If you have a need for expedite or truckload, you can count on DFX and DFT. We are here to help you with any of your shipping needs.

In the last few weeks, we have all experienced many difficult decisions. Dayton Freight used good judgement when making these decisions for the health and safety of our employees and customers. We understand these times bring a lot of uncertainties, and our goal is to continue to transport your freight. In order to do this, we ask that you honor the following:

  • Please call the consignee before scheduling a shipment with us to make sure they are open. This is very important and will help operations continue to run smoothly.
  • If we cannot deliver due to the consignee being closed, we will have to return your shipment and a charge will occur.
  • Due to our capacity limitations, we cannot store freight until the ban is lifted. It’s very important that the shipper is aware of this restraint.

We apologize if the bullet points above seem too direct but we MUST keep our operations running smoothly to better serve you! Your cooperation with these instructions will help us achieve this goal. This is crucial for the success of our business and yours!

We understand our role is to keep the supply chain moving and we take this very seriously. Dayton Freight continues to educate our employees, while taking extra measures to prevent the spread of this virus. For more information, and the most recent updates, please visit daytonfreight.com. Thank you for your cooperation during this challenging time and thank you for all the support you give Dayton Freight – we truly appreciate you.

Sincerely,

Anthony Rocco

President’s Letter

October 21, 2021

Dear Dayton Freight Customer,

The statement, “You can’t build an adaptable organization without adaptable people, certainly holds true in our current nature. Like many of you, Dayton Freight continues to face industry-wide challenges, and our dedicated team is always adapting to provide the best service. I would be remiss if I didn’t express my gratitude for the loyalty and trust you have in us. We are humbled to be the solution for all your shipping needs.

Throughout the pandemic, we took pride as an essential business and kept our trucks moving. With many unknowns, our goal was to control what we could control and focus on the safety and needs of our customers. A year and a half later, we still focus on that mission, despite the new challenges the entire transportation industry continues to face. You hear about hiring all over, and we too are continuing to seek good employees. I’m grateful to have a team that has put a heavy emphasis on hiring good candidates and we’re excited to welcome many new faces. We appreciate your patience as these individuals train and learn the Dayton Freight way!

Each day we read headlines highlighting supply chain issues with thousands of containers waiting to unload on the west coast, and manufacturers can’t keep up with the need for equipment. We all feel the domino effect of these issues and adapt the best we can. Early on, we felt business levels increase rapidly and our service wasn’t up to par. At that time, it was only fair to make the decision to put a restraint on new business. Our operations have since found a balance and we thank you for your patience during that time. With no crystal ball in sight, the lack of equipment and equipment prices will remain a challenge. As always, our adaptable team will work together to get through these hurdles. Thank you for adapting with us!

On a positive note, this year Dayton Freight celebrated 40 years in business. We continue to reinvest back in our Service Centers and have several projects on the horizon. In June, we completed a brand-new Omaha Service Center, and we are nearing completion with a new facility in Sioux City IA. Additionally, we are expanding in Evansville IN and soon we will add a dot to the map and open a Rochester MN Service Center.

As always, please reach out to your Account Manager if you have any questions or need help accommodating a request. We are grateful for your business and look forward to traveling the roads ahead to serve you!

Sincerely,

Tom Cronin
